My brother is out of control
This is going to be long, so please read it all and bear with me. My mom moved across the country with my 13 year old brother after her divorce from my step dad, who was a terrible and abusive parent who could be less concerned with his family and was an incredibly selfish and self serving man. My brother is his child with my mom. And as of the last few months, he has been totally out of control. He has never been one for academics- he has high test scores, but pretty much refuses to do his homework. There is always an excuse- left on the bus, forgot it at school, did not know it was assigned....Nothing works: tutors, detention, study hall, signed teacher agendas daily...And he has done so poorly the last year that he has almost been held back once. At this point, my mother is choosing to hold him back this year. He is just the way less mature than other kids his age. He sits in front of the computer all afternoon playing games, or using his Wii. He is lazy and totally not motivated to even try to do the work to pass school. No form of discipline seems to get through to him, and no punishments or grounding seem to be swaying him into taking the hint and just doing the work like he is supposed to and be polite. More importantly, he is horrible to my mother. His attitude is far beyond the normal teeanger rebellion BS that we all go through. The simplest request, like "can you please shut the light off in the kitchen" turns into a screaming match because he instead of just taking 5 seconds to flip the switch, its an argument because "I wasnt the last one IN the kitchen why should I have to do it! You make me do EVERYTHING." If its a simple request to do the dishes after dinner when asked nicely, he says "ok" and then 2 days later those dishes wont have moved. Instead, it turns into scream fests because he cant just get up and do them the first time he is asked. This sounds like normal teenage attitude, but trust me I cant convey how nasty he is to her just by typing it. And there are hundreds of other ways he is nasty. His attitude, sarcasm, and disrespect for my mother is getting worse and worse. This weekend alone he made her cry on more than one occasion. He is a sweet kid who is always nice to everyone and very caring. So its becoming evidently clear that he is becoming more and more like his father, which makes my mom and I nervous. He seems lately to have this sense of entitlement, like he can just do what he wants and is numb to the yelling or punishment. He just does not care. I have had several talks with him about his attitude and his horrible behavior, and he always sits there while I talk..."I know...I dont mean to be that way...I just dont like it when she yells at me...I know this, I know that." It seems to be just to appease me, but I KNOW he knows the way he is acting is wrong, he just does not care. At this point, I should mention that since his deadbeat father is not around, I am like a second parent. He looks up to me, and usually listens to me before he will listen to our mother. Its easier for me to get him on the right track. I am also about 10 years older than him and know that our family situation has never been great, and that our mom is a little high strung and has a short fuse. That does not help, but after living with them most of my life I know that she does not just scream at him for no reaon. It just seems to be the only way to get through to him, because courtesy and politeness dont seem to matter to him. It has to come to screaming, begging, and crying to get him to do anything or change his attitude. My mom has considered family therapy, or just therapy for him. Boot camp, being held back, sending him to live with his dad....She just does not know how to make it better. Today she called me crying because she feels 5 more years of this will kill her. She wanted to send him to me over summer break to see if I can get him to change a little. Its to a point where she cannot deal with him but does not know how to get him to CARE about how he treats her and his own life like his schooling or his deviance. She is also struggling financially after the divorce and has given him as much normalcy as she could to make him feel at home after the move. So she is extra stressed because she has to deal with the daily worry of how to make ends meet without making his life suffer and this is not making things better. What in the hell should we do? I know I am not the parent, but my mother is beside herself looking for help, and I tend to be a good problem solver and end up as the mediator/backup parent for my brother. How can we get my baby brother to see how badly he is hurting our mother and only cheating himself? Its like rock bottom is the only place for him to go before angering or hurting the wrong person and reaping the repurcussions.... I know that was long, but Ill quickly dish the 10 points the most helpful answer, along with some huge gratitude for any good tips/ideas.

Tomb Raider Anniversary for the Wii
I finally got the game that I have been wanting forever, and I can't even figure it out! Normally, I get it right away, but on the Wii? That's a different story! I'm still in Peru, looking for the cogs. I've found the first two, and now I can't find the last! It's making me so mad, because so far I haven't gotton anywhere. How do I convince a games addict to seek counseling
I have a co-worker who is addicted to WOW and has gone so far as to download it to the company's computers and is visiting sites to find hints/cheats. Trouble is - this behaviour has resulted in his also infecting the computers with viruses and other malware - so much so we're unable to complete a work session without some website 'pop-up' in Internet Explorer (or other browser) appearing on-screen. (Many of these pop-up websites are in the realm of porno) We work as 'temps' for a major company and their policy is 'Absolutely NO Downloading'. He's been told to stop before (repeatedly) by myself and other co-workers and firing may not work due to the embarrasment and poor press this would likely cause the client company. Besides, the last time action was attempted he altered some codes (in retribution) and none of us were able to gain access to the computers to perform our work and I fear he may strike back with even more serious consequences next time someone attempts to stop him. He has all the classic signs of addiction. His Father left home leaving he and his Mother to pay the mortgage and bills and SHE is only working at the leasure of the state in a grant-funded job - so they can't afford to lose HIS paycheck and I don't want to be the one to cause their homelessness. His Mom has talked to him before about this but I think she's too depressed over her situation to the point she simply ignores the seriousness of his addiction. Even worse - our company could stand to lose the contract if the client company finds this guy has violated their rules and compromised not only our and the client's operations - but the client company's image to ITs customers. BTW: He and his Mom regularly attend religious services so I was thinking of contacting the person in-charge of their place of worship - but if this should get out all hell will break loose. Is there any free counseling service for computer game addicts? We live in NYS.

I just got the nancy drew white wolf if icicle creek for the wii, and i am stuck on the pond part. I have to shovel snow off the pond but i can't go on the thin ice or it wil break, I also have the game for the computer but I have never played it, I would think it is the same, but I am not sure.
