Are kids ruder nowadays What to do about rude behavior in kids
I was recently at a 4 year old birthday party for a young relative. It was a small party, with some relatives (Grandma & Grandpa), and some friends of the hostess and their younger children. Most kids were in the 3-5 year old range.
I could not believe how rude and entitled these kids acted. I would have chalked it up to "a rotten apple" if it were 1 or 2 kids, but it seemed like nearly all these kids were exhibiting naughty and demanding behavior.
For example: one little boy walked up to my husband and said, "Push me on the swing." Not "please". Not "would you". Push me. Needless to say, my husband did not push the kid on the swing. He ignored him. The boy didn't get the hint and demanded again, "Push me" when he got to the swing.
All the kids I saw seemed to just help themselves off the table where soda, finger foods, chips, etc. were set up, as opposed to asking their parents or the hostess (or at least an adult) for help. The pinata game turned into a whiny mess and the present opening was a free for all.
I just don't remember parties being like this when I was younger. Is it my imagination or are kids just plain ruder? In the future, should I just ignore this or should I say something? I'm in my 30s with no kids, so maybe I'm just uptight? It just seemed like the kids ran the party!

What was the father doing wrong and what would you have done if you were in his shoes
I was a witness to both of these events.
A shy 13 year old girl was having a birthday party at her home. When the other children arrived, she stayed in the living room with them for a short while. She then said, "good-night", and retreated to her room, intending to stay there for the rest of the party. Her father stood outside of her door for half an hour trying to coax her out but she locked the door to her room. Seeing how stubborn she was, her father proceeded to shout and bang loudly on her door, telling her that what she is doing is embarrassing to him, that her behavior is not what a 13 year old should have, that she is a weakling who will amount to nothing, and that if she doesn't unlock the door immediately, he will kick it down. The child started to cry but shouted back across the door that she will not open it. They made such a loud commotion upstairs, the parents and kids downstairs heard it. The party ended on a low note.
A similar scenario occurred two weeks later. The father was seen chasing the girl down around their apartment complex with a shoe in his right hand and shouting profanities at the same time. The girl was running in front and crying, darting left and right to avoid his father catching up to her and beating her with the shoe. The mother could do nothing to stop the father so she watched helplessly. What was the reason for this chase? The neighbors were holding a gathering for kids with free cakes and games on a nearby lawn, and because their apartment complexes were rented out as university dormitories exclusively for graduate students who had kids, the entire neighborhood was teeming and buzzing with children and festivity. However the girl did not want to attend, she was seen gingerly approaching the lawn where the event was taking place with a distressed look on her face, before she got close, she turned around and began to head home. The father came up from behind and blocked her, gave her a shove forward, but she refused to advance further. They started arguing, the father grabbed her roughly and tried to pick her up but she struggled out of his hold, the father cursed loudly. After several unsuccessful attempt at snatching the child, he reached down and took off one of his shoe. The child started to run, the father took off after her, leading to the aforementioned chase scene.
My question is, what was the father doing wrong, and what would you have done if you were in his shoes?
The girl had also sustained purple bruises on her arms and torso where her father had attempted to grab her. Additionally there were marks that showed her father had tried to sink his nails into her around her biceps where he had taken hold of her.
I do not believe the father was being intentionally abusive. However I am concerned for the girl, who seems to exhibit many classical signs of Asperger Syndrome. They both need help, in my opinion.

Creative ideas for girls 5th birthday party
Hi! My little sweetie is turning 5 at the end of May. We know we would like a special party, and we'd like to invite all 14 children in her class.
The problem is, we live in a city without many resources for children, so I'm having a hard time coming up with good ideas. Can you help me add to my list?
So far, what's "out" is MacDonald's (there's one of those this weekend for the children) and swimming/bowling (there's too many children and they're too little), and a movie (too quiet!).
I'd like to have a party where the kids can be free and play and dance - they have to be so quiet in school, so I want them to have a blast! I also think that with that many children, having it outside of home would be best, but we can if we have to, especially if we come up with an amazing idea!).
So far I've got:
- wagon ride at a farm (but the farm is really run-down...not so sure)
- treasure hunt and games at a park (but, we're in trouble if it's cold or rainy and it will be hard to keep track of all of those kids in the open)
Thank you all soooo much for any ideas!
(:
(I posted here cuz the ladies and friends in Newborn and Baby are so helpful and clever!)
pumpkins - I loooove that idea. It could be like a pizza and pop dance.
Do you think people will think it's too far out for a 5 year old's party? I can be known to go overboard (who me??).

Would you travel 30 mins to bring your child to a birthday party
I'm thinking of having one for my daughter at this place that looks like a lot of fun for kids!! http://www.spacecenter.com/index.html <---- here.
Would you bring your kid that far for a birthday? I'm worried about having it and not having anyone show up. We'd be paying for all the food and fun. So its not as if the parents would have to shell out any extra besides the cost of the trip to get there...
Also...as the parent of the birthday child would you pay $200 for all of these things?:

Ideas for my husbands 25th birthday
So my husband is turning 25 at the end of July, I really want to do something special for him. he has surprised me so many times, when he was overseas and I in the states he came and surprised me on our anniversary. He's surprised me with my own birthday party. And he also surprised me with a baby shower when we lived over seas. I want to surprise him for once, I really want to throw him a party but don't know where to start. We are from NJ and will be going there for the weekend of his birthday so we can be child free for at least one say for his birthday weekend. So he loves sports, games, but has most video games he loves to travel, and he's in the Navy. So please help me with any ideas. It's in a couple of months but I still want to be prepared!! Thanks

Am I spoiled
It started last Christmas, when I got a camcorder. I got my dad a digital camera because I noticed that he wanted one and he went out and bought me a $900 camcorder. Next, in february I got my cell phone. My dad's cell phone plan was ending and there was a deal buy one get one free so my dad's asked me if I wanted one and I thought he was joking so I said sure. In 30 minutes, I had a brand new limited edition Motorola KRZR K1 red. I was happy cuz I wanted a cell phone since I was 10 (now I'm 14). So now he pays like $80 a month for the plan. Two weeks later, we were looking at printers (yes, my dad and I are really into electronics), and I realized that color laser printers print really well. I've had a color inkjet all my life and my dad has a black and white laser so I wanted to get it. I didn't tell my dad that I want it, but he was like, "o, look at the quality" "wow, its amazing".
After a week and a half or so, my dad came home with a big box, and he's like, "look what I got for you" I opened it and I'm like "you're kidding" and he said he got it on sale cuz it costs like $290 WITHOUT ink (each toner aka cartridge costs $50 and there's 4 of them) and he got it for $290 WITH the ink included. So, we plugged it in and I got a new printer.
In March, I wanted a Nintendo DS. And this is the thing I actually begged for for a month. When my dad's friend told him that his son bought himself one, my dad thought it might actually be a good gaming system. So by the end of March, I was once again happy with another toy.
My confirmation came in May, and my dad spent $300-$400 for the party.
There's a European tradition that children get gifts on June 1st. I got $500, because my dad thought I would need the money for my trip to Poland, so I wouldn't have to ask my grandparents for stuff. I wanted to give him back the money, but he told me that if I didn't want it i could throw it in the garbage. (Of course I didn't do that)
When I went to Poland, my grandparents locked up the money and told me that they would give it back to me when I returned home to Canada, and I would give it back to my dad (how?)
I then got $100 from my other grandparents, $50 from my aunt and uncle and $50 from my other aunt. (Birthday money)
When I came back to Canada, after 2 months, I told my dad to take the money, but he didn't so I left it on the kitchen table, but he put it back in my room.
He was thinking of getting me a laptop for my birthday, so I said that I only want a MacBook cuz I thought that he'd say that he can't afford it, and that he wouldn't buy it.
my DS got busted in Poland, so we took it back to the store and said it doesn't work, and I got $200.
So, I now had $900 in cash.
My dad took me to Future Shop a few days before my birthday (August) and it turned out that the MacBooks were on sale, and came with a free package worth $250. We ended up getting a MacBook for me, with total cost of $1800 (with a $300 warranty included). So, I told my dad that he's getting the $900 cuz we're short on money. He FINALLY agreed. So, I payed for half my birthday present and I was really happy that my dad didn't have to pay the full price.
Now, I feel really bad, cuz I asked for an iPhone for Christmas and we are REALLY short on money (actually, we always were but now we are even more), so I don't really want it anymore, because I already have a cell phone and and iPod.
My dad got himself a GPS for Christmas, as if he knew he couldn't expect anything from anyone else. I had $60 saved up, so I got my dad a tie for Christmas and told him to choose whichever one he wanted.
What should I do? I feel so bad that my dad gets me a bunch of stuff, when I can barely get him a tie. I wanted to get him a GPS last year, but decided on a digital camera because our old one was really bad.
I know my dad loves me and I love him too, not for the stuff he gets me, but because he's my dad. He works really hard and he's the only one who works for us, because my mom died when I was like, 2 years old and I don't want my dad to get me anything anymore, cuz we need the money for other things.
Am I spoiled, and what should I do?
