How come I cant seem to find decent friends
Hi everyone, So, I think I'm a pretty regular girl. I'm in my mid twenties, I'm a laid-back Libra and I'd like to think I'm flexible, forgiving, open and fun to be around. But for some reason I find my self often disappointed by my 'close' friends. I feel like when I'm friends with someone, I'm loyal to them, I'll be there when they need me, I'll go out of my way to say hi or do nice gestures for them but I find it rare to get that in return. Sometimes even, despite having done nothing wrong that I'm aware of I find myself alone. Where are these people who are supposed to be my friends when I need them? I'm always there for other people and when it comes to me, every one seems to forget. If I might make an example, I never got a bridal shower, because everyone was too busy or didn't want to, or even complained about having to participate. Now I'm having my first baby with my husband and guess what, I'm not going to have a baby shower either because I refuse to be let down again. I don't want to think for months that they're going to pull together only to leave me hanging and disappointed and stuck with the costs. Perhaps I'm delusional and there's something strange about me. I think I'm a pretty balanced person and yet I feel so disposable. Why is there such a blatant deficit of people out there who are willing to keep their word and form half decent relationships? Am I weird or what?? Sometimes I feel like giving up on playing the 'friend' game...

Attend Not Attend Or Send Card Help
I like lots of people have a Step-Family. I also was recently married in June. I invited all my family who I talk to, and don't annoy me. I had a little squabble with my older step-sister about a year before and things were okay back in June ,just a little weird. My Younger step-sister lives with the older one (who I got into a squabble with) and I think she took her side. I invited both but neither actually came. My Younger step-sister is 20 and is getting married this upcoming January to a man in the service. I think she's kinda young to be getting married, but she's always been the "Smart One" so I'm trying to let that go. This younger step and I were always having fun when I would go over there on Weekends. We'd play games, tease other siblings, sneak food from the kitchen at night etc.. As we got older we drifted apart and only saw each other on Holidays. All my family lives in the same small town, while I live up here in the city. So I've become the "Black Sheep" I invited her to my wedding 6 months ago, and she RSVP'd as coming but on the actual day wasn't there! She claimed that she had to work. I sent my invites out a month in advance so people could make arrangements. She came to my bridal shower even and didn't say a word about not coming. Now I get her invite 2 and 1/2 weeks before her wedding day! (He's in the service so they're doing this on rather short notice I think before he's goes back to wherever.) What should I do? Should I go? Send a Card? No Card? Only go to ceremony? Please help a confused Black Sheep! Thanks.

I know its rude to throw your own bridal shower
but does the same ettiquette apply to birthday parties? I threw my husband a birthday party last month and my birthday is coming up on september 16th. Is it rude for me to invite people to my birthday party? I will be doing a lot of cooking for it. It's also the biggest football game in our state. Ohio State vs USC. So it's going to be my birthday party/Ohio state football game party. Hubby asked me to invite a bunch of people. I feel a little weird I don't expect gifts from anyone. Hubby told me he was going to buy me stuff, but he doesn't have to! Thats really all i want are people to come celebrate with me, have food and cake and a little drinking :) and of course OSU football! Sophie - the reason i'm doing all the cooking is because tomorrow i'm starting weight watchers and I want to make sure that the food is weight watcher friendly even if cake and drinks are not! :) iloveweddings -- OSU vs Michigan is USUALLY the biggest game for both of us...however, we're playing USC, everyones talking about it. :) cupcake princess - you obviously don't know the wedding's section is my home section..alot of people know me from here...that and i posted this question in the ettiquette section and i got more answers here so :P cupcake your answer was rude because you didn't even offer an answer to my question, you just told me to post somewhere else.

Bridal shower
My MOH is from out of town. She said she is going to fly out here and throw me a bridal shower, since all of my bridesmaids and friends are in a 4 hours radius of where I live and it's easier that way. I'm really excited! She has asked me to pick out a place where I would like to have the shower, and if I will help her with games and invitations and everything. I don't know if it's because she doesn't know any of the other bridesmaids or if they are just unwilling to help. I don't know if the bridesmaids even know about it. I don't *really* have a problem with doing this, but does that seem kind of weird? Am I breaking any serious etiquette rules by helping? What should I do? she is my ex-stepsister. so not really my immediate family.

Is it weird to have my bridal shower theme be breast cancer awareness
I am really supportive of breast cancer awareness and i figured instead of a traditional favor (candle, pic frame, candy) i wanted to donate money to a breast cancer foundation. I also want to give pamplets out at the tables and pins and my game gift will be based around products that donate money when purchased like at bed bathe beyond and such. Will my family think something is wrong with me. Is it weird. This is a womens function and what better then this. cancer runs thru my family.

Im throwing a bridal shower for my best friend and need ideas for games to play Any suggestions
This shower is sort of recipe-oriented. Any cute ideas that we could do? And is it weird if I don't hand out any gifts for the people who attend the shower?
